Description

Prerequisite: Acceptance in the BA Elementary Education Program (successful completion of all EDU courses 345-378 or BS in Math or Science.

This course introduces the foundations of English Language Development (ELD) instruction and research -based Science of Reading Instruction to differentiated instruction for students who native language is other than English. The purpose of the course is to ensure teacher candidates can use appropriate approaches, methods, techniques, monitoring protocols, and assessments to ensure K-12 English language learners are progress in their understanding of English content in their classrooms. This course follows the curricular framework for Sheltered English Immersion Instruction in accordance with the Arizona State Department of Education and English Language learners and the ensure the mastery of concepts of teaching systematics phonics, phonics awareness, in accordance with the New Mexico Public Education Department..
