Description

Prerequisite: Acceptance in the B.A. in Education Program.

This course surveys the principles of practices of universal literacy assessment, teacher candidates examine the basic diagnostic aproaches that lead to effective instructional strategies for students who struggle with learning to read and write. There is an emphasis on the causes of reading and writing difficulties, such as student motivation, dyslexia, various disabilities, and instructional approaches. The course focuses on diagnostics technique to inform the design, assessment choices, student monitoring and report progress, and evaluation of literacy instruction. The course also focuses on introducing teaching research-based phonics and reading methods.
