Description

Prerequisite: BIO 181 and another BIO class (College level)

One semester of college-level chemistry is recommended. Students will survey mechanisms of inheritance (Mendelian and non-Mendelian) and modern molecular genetics, including regulation of transcription and translation, introduction to genomes, understanding the basics of gene transmission, mutation, express, and regfulation, and extra nuclear genomes of mitochondria. This course meets for three hours lecture and three hours laboratory per week. Laboratory sessions include utilization of techniques of both classical genetics (with plants, fungi, and inverebrates) and contemporary molecular genetics.
