Description
Prerequisite: High school chemistry plus MTH 110 or equivalent or instructor's permission.
The first semester of this two-semester seqeunce presents fundamental concepts of chemistry with an emphasis on theoretical and physical principles; atomic and molecular structure and theory; principles of chemical bonding, and their impact on the properties of gases, liquids, and solids. Laboratory experiments illustrate chemical principles, some of which are quantitative in nature, involving titrimetic and gravimetic methods. Instrumentation in this class includes use of the spectrophotometer. This course meets for four hours lecture and three hours laboratory per week.
NOTE: This course is designed for pre-professional, engineerring and chemistry majors.
